Yokosuka Port - Gateway to the Tokyo Metropolitan Area
Located at the entrance of Tokyo Bay, Yokosuka Port reduces the impact of speed restrictions, enabling efficient maritime transportation. Kurihama is the only port area in Tokyo Bay accessible without going through the Uraga Channel route.
Plans for a New Pier
In order to meet future logistics demand, a new pier will be constructed in Yokosuka Port using land reclamation, according to plans updated in 2024. An environmental impact assessment is being conducted. The new pier will include development of about 5 hectares of commercial land. The wall will be 260 meters long and 9 meters below sea level, and plans include the addition of new domestic ferry and RORO vessel routes.
Yokosuka-Kitakyushu Route to Asia
A ferry between Yokosuka and Kitakyushu opened in 2021, allowing 21-hour transport between the Tokyo metropolitan area and Kyushu, with one daily departure, enabling third-day deliveries. It also offers services between China or South Korea and the Tokyo metropolitan area via Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki.

Yokosuka Port is located at the entrance of Tokyo Bay, which is key to Tokyo metropolitan area logistics. Due to its location, it is largely free from the speed restrictions of the Uraga Channel route (12 knots, or about 22 km/h), enabling more efficient transportation. Network expansions such as the extension of the Ken-O Expressway and the southern extension of National Route 357 are expected to further reduce travel time to areas throughout Kanto. Furthermore, the Kurihama area is not subject to the speed restrictions of the Uraga Channel route. By switching to land transportation at Kurihama Port, it is possible to reach central Tokyo in about an hour.

Opened in 2021, this route provides daily service connecting the Tokyo metropolitan area and Kyushu in about 21 hours. The ferry company network significantly shortens lead time and enables secure cargo transport, providing major logistics improvements for the region. It also provides service available between China or South Korea and the Tokyo metropolitan area via Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki. Centralizing transportation from Asia in this way further improves logistics and helps solve operations issues. For more information, please see the following websites:

There are two sites in Yokosuka that could be developed to establish large-scale facilities or used for logistics operations:
1. Yokosuka Interchange Surrounding Area: About 55.1 hectares (Near Yokohama-Yokosuka Road Yokosuka Interchange)
2. Y-Heart Area: About 89.5 hectares(Near Yokohama-Yokosuka Road Kinugasa Interchange)
Both areas are located near the interchange of Yokohama-Yokosuka Road, which provides excellent access to Yokohama and central Tokyo in about 30-60 minutes. Improvements to the Ken-O Expressway will increase access to the entire Tokyo metropolitan area including northern Kanto. For more information, please see the following website:
