Yokosuka Port - Gateway to the Tokyo Metropolitan Area
Located at the entrance of Tokyo Bay, Yokosuka Port reduces the impact of speed restrictions, enabling efficient maritime transportation. Kurihama is the only port area in Tokyo Bay accessible without going through the Uraga Channel route.
Plans for a New Pier
In order to meet future logistics demand, a new pier will be constructed in Yokosuka Port using land reclamation, according to plans updated in 2024. An environmental impact assessment is being conducted.
The new pier will include development of about 5 hectares of commercial land. The wall will be 260 meters long and 9 meters below sea level, and plans include the addition of new domestic ferry and RORO vessel routes.
Yokosuka-Kitakyushu Route to Asia
A ferry between Yokosuka and Kitakyushu opened in 2021, allowing 21-hour transport between the Tokyo metropolitan area and Kyushu, with one daily departure, enabling third-day deliveries. It also offers services between China or South Korea and the Tokyo metropolitan area via Kitakyushu and Shimonoseki.
